Born in Edinburgh, Scotland, the actress came to the United States as the wife ofDion Bouci-caultand performed in his company until he renounced her for a younger actress. However, she had won a considerable following for her portrayals of heroines in light comedies. She was small-boned and projected an air of cultivated sweetness that particularly appealed to audiences on the road.
