CAMERON, BEATRICE

(1863-1940)
Born Susan Hegeman in Troy, New York, Cameron acted with various companies, including that ofRobert MantellinCalled Back(1884). In 1886, she joinedRichardMansfield's company, performing with him inPrince KarlatMadison Square Theatre. She continued as hisleading lady, divorcing her first husband George R. P. Phoebus to marry Mansfield in 1891. In 1889, she was the first to play Nora in Henrik Ibsen'sA Doll's Housein English in New York. She played Raina to Mansfield's Bluntschli inArms and the Man(1894), the first production of a play by George Bernard Shaw in America. Cameron retired after 1900.
