MARSHALLPLAN

Marshallplan: translation

The European Recovery Program was offered by the United States to all the countries that had suffered from the dev astations of World WarII. It was formulated in 1947 as an initiative of Secretary of State George Marshall, who had served during the war as one of the commanding generals of the U.S. Army. In ex change for granting financial aid, which was not accepted by the Communist countries, the U.S. government required that the Euro pean countries reorganize their economies. This resulted in the foun dation of the Organization of European Economic Cooperation in 1948. The Netherlands benefited amply from the Marshall Plan from 1948 to 1951.
