This American men's fashion quarterly magazine was founded in 1931 asApparel Arts. For many years it was published in association withEsquiremagazine but in 1967 changed its name fromGentlemen's QuarterlytoGQand, in 1970, became a monthly magazine. Condé Nast Publications bought the magazine in 1983 and, in addition to its coverage ofmenswear, it began featuring articles on food, movies, sex, and books.
