Setting of theordinaryprayers of the Roman Catholic mass in Latin composed by Ariel Ramirez (1921– ), completed in 1964. While faithful to the traditional liturgical forms of thestile antico, Ramirez incorporates a variety of Latin American folk idioms:vidalaandbaualarhythms in the Kyrie; acarnavalitodance in the Gloria; an insistentchacerera truncarhythm in the Credo; the Boliviancarnaval cochabambinoin the Sanctus; and theestile pampeanoin the Agnus Dei.
The original scoring requires a four-voiced mixed choir, a tenor soloist, piano or harpsichord,bombo(type of percussion), guitar, double bass,charango(Andean snare),quena(Inca flute), andsiku(Andean pipe). The work requires 20 minutes to perform.
