PATRIOT MISSILE

Patriot Missile: translation

An antiballistic missile system, batteries of which were sent by theUnited Statesduring thePersian Gulf War(1991) to help Israel defend itself againstScud missilesbeing fired byIraq. Hailed as a revolutionary system that would prevent any Scud from entering Israel, the Patriot system did not live up to its expected capabilities during the Gulf War. After the war, Israeli officials testified before a U.S. Congress House committee, stating that the system only managed to intercept less than 10 percent of all missiles shot by Iraq at Israel.
