BARAM, UZI

Born inJerusalemand educated in political science and sociology atHebrew University of Jerusalem, he was a member of theKnesseton theAlignmentParty list. He served as secretary general of theIsrael Labor Partyfrom 1984 until he resigned in January 1989 to protest Labor's decision to join aGovernment of National Unityled byYitzhak Shamir. In May 1996, Baram was reelected on the Labor list, and on 17 May 1999, he was reelected to the 15th Knesset on theOne Israellist. He did not contest the 2003 elections (seeKNESSET ELECTIONS) for the 16th Knesset but retained influence within the Israel Labor Party.
