(Workers of Zion)
Apolitical partyestablished in 1946 following an earlier split inMa-paiby the merger ofPoalei Zion(Workers ofZion) and smaller socialistZionistgroups. In 1948, it united with Mifleget Poalim-Hashomer Hatzairto formMapamand, as such, contested the 1949 and 1951Knesset elections. In the early 1950s, it split with Mapam, reestablished itself as an independent party, and won 10 seats in the 1955 elections, 7 in 1959, and 8 in 1961. It formed theAlignmentwith Mapai and contested the 1965 and subsequentKnessetelections in that political unit.
