EDUCATIONAL FILM STUDIO

(Wytwórnia Filmów Oświatowych, WFO)
Production studio founded in 1949 in Łódź, which has made approximately five thousand educational anddocumentary films. Among them are classic Polish nature films (by Włodzimierz Puchalski, among others) and films about the arts (by Jarosław Brzozowski, Grzegorz Dubowski, Konstanty Gordon, and others). The studio is also renowned for the production of some classic short films made by directors such asKrzysztof Zanussi, Krzysztof Kieślowski, Wojciech Wiszniewski, andPiotr Szulkin. WFO received numerous awards for its productions, beginning with the Grand Prix at the first Cannes Film Festival in 1946 for Jarosław Brzozowski's short filmThe Salt Mine Wieliczka(Wieliczka). In 1994 the studio was renamed as Educational Film and Educational Programs Studio (Wytwórnia Filmów Oświatowych i Edukacyjnych).
