VLGEE, CLAUDE

(b. 1921)
French poet and essayist. He was born in Bischwiller. He was active in the Jewish Resistance in France during World War II,but in 1942 escaped to Spain and the following year emigrated to the US. He taught at various American universities, before becoming a professor at the Hebrew University in 1963. He wrote poems, stories and recollections, many of which deal with Jewish themes.
