VERMES, GEZA

(b. 1924)

British scholar, of Hungarian origin. He taught at the University of Newcastle, and later became professor of Jewish studies at the University of Oxford. He published studies of the Dead Sea Scrolls, Jewish exegesis, and the Jewish background to the New Testament.
