MANDELKERN, SOLOMON

(1846-1902)
German Hebrew poet and scholar of Polish origin. He was born in Mlynow. He served as assistant to the government-appointed rabbi of Odessa from 1873 to 1880, then settled in Leipzig, where he devoted himself to research. A supporter of Hibbat Zion, he attended the First Zionist Congress at Basle in 1897. His publications includeHekhal ha-Kodesh(a Bible concordance), a history of Russia, a history of Russian literature, and a German-Russian dictionary.
