MALBIM, MEIR LEIBUSH

(1809-79)
Rabbinic scholar. He was born in Volochisk, and lived in Warsaw and Leczyca. In 1839 he became rabbi of Wreschen, and then moved to Kempen. In 1858 he became chief rabbi of Romania. He attacked the Reform movement, was forced to leave the country, and subsequently wandered throughout Europe. He wrote a commentary on the Bible.
