IBN YAHIA, DAVID BEN JOSEPH (YAHIA)

(1465-1543)
Portuguese rabbi, grammarian and philosopher. Born in Lisbon, he became a leader of Portuguese Jewry, and an adviser to the kings of Portugal. In 1525 he was appointed rabbi of Naples. After the Jews were expelled from Naples in 1540 he settled in Imola. He wrote studies of grammar and philosophy as well as poetry.
