English scholar. He was reader in rabbinics at Cambridge University. WithClaude Montefiorehe founded (1888) and edited theJewish Quarterly Review. His most important works wereJewish Life in the Middle Ages,Studies in Pharisaism and the Gospels, andHebrew Ethical Wills.
