Westerns in Cinema

WINTERS, SHELLEY

(1920–2006)
Born Shirley Schrift in St. Louis, Missouri, Shelley Winters was nominated for four Academy Awards and won the best supporting actress award twice. While most of her great films were non-Westerns, she did play the sexy dance hall girlLola Manners in Winchester ’73(1950). Her flirtations with Waco Johnnie (Dan Duryea) probably take most viewers aback as they associate Winters with her later roles as a frumpy matron. She also starred in the Western Untamed Frontier (1952).
