Westerns in Cinema

JANUARY, LOIS

(1912–2006)
Although Lois January appeared in many non-Western Universal films in the 1930s, she also worked in B Western roles with male actors such as Tim McCoy and Bob Steele. Typical for the 1930s, the redhead usually played the pretty young female in need of male leadership and guidance. Atypical Lois January film is The Roaming Cowboy(1937), with Fred Scott. January’s character almost succumbs to the pressure to deed over her ranch to an evil land grabber, but Scott rescues her just in time. At the end we see her sitting on a swing with her cowboy hero, watching the sunset and dreaming of their future together.
