HOLT, JENNIFER

(1920–1997)
Born Elizabeth Marshall Holt, Jennifer Holt was the sister of cowboy star Tim Holt. Most of her work was with Universal and PRC during the 1940s. Holt generally played independent and aggressive women opposite such male leads as Eddie Dew, Johnny Mack Brown, and Eddie Dean. She never appeared in a film with her brother. Perhaps most unique for Holt were the roles in which she played the female outlaw. In The Hawk of Powder River (1948), she played the title role as a vicious outlaw chief who, to those around her, appears virtuous and respectable and beloved of the sheriff’s son. Yet she really robs stagecoaches and works her feminine wiles to control unsuspecting men. In The Old Chisholm Trail (1942), Holt’s character gets into a vicious fistfight with Mady Correll.
