Born in Ohio, Lincoln A. Wagenhals began his theatrical work as an actor, but partnered withCollin Kemper, another Ohioan, to manage a theatre in Binghamton, New York. They managed several stars, includingArthur Byron, Helena Modjeska, Henry Miller, Annie Russell, andFrederick Wardebetween 1893 and 1906, when they leased the Astor Theatre and began a long string of successful productions, includingThe Kreutzer Sonata(1906),Clothes(1906),Paid in Full(1908),The Stronger Sex(1908),Seven Days(1909),The Greyhound(1912),Seeing Things(1920),Spanish Love(1920),The Bat(1920),Why Men Leave Home(1922),The Breaking Point(1923),Lovely Lady(1925), andThe Joker(1925).
