Paul Armstrong's four-act drama, sometimes known asSalomy Jane's Kissand based on a Bret Harte story, opened on 19 January 1907 at the Liberty Theatre for 122 performances, produced byTheodore A. Liebler. Critics appreciatedEleanor Robsonas a young woman molested by a would-be lover andH. B. Warneras a mysterious stranger who murders the molester. Salomy Jane helps the stranger escape lynch mob justice even though she knows he had his own reasons for killing her attacker. The play had a brief returnengagementbeginning on 2 September 1907 and motion picture versions were released in 1914 and 1923.
