As an alternative to high-pricedattractionsat first-class theatres for elite audiences, theatres that booked attractions geared to popular audiences scaled their ticket prices lower. This term was later adopted by the Federal Theatre Project* for one of its wings, the Popular Price Theatre, which offered cheap tickets for plays by new playwrights.
