A native of Oswego, New York, Lottie Blair Parker began her career acting oppositeJohn McCullough, Mary Anderson, andDion Boucicaultbefore becoming a playwright of a dozen popular potboilers. Her plays includeWhite Roses(1892),Under Southern Skies(1901),Lights of Home(1903), andThe Redemption of David Corson(1906). Parker's greatest success,Way Down East(1898), was a Broadway and touring hit revised byJoseph Grismerand produced byWilliam A. BradyandFlorenz Ziegfeld Jr. This popularmelodramawas a major silent motion picture triumph directed by D. W. Griffith in 1920.
