James Montgomery's slender comedy based upon a story by Frederick Isham opened at the Longacre Theatre on 14 September 1916 and ran for 332 performances.William Collieracted the young businessman who takes a bet that he can tell only the truth for 24 hours, a feat that nearly loses him his girlfriend as well as the brokerage firm for which he works. Two musicals,Yes, Yes, Yvette(1927) andTell Her the Truth(1932), and two motion pictures, 1929 and 1941, were spun off of this play.
