NEW YORK DRAMATIC MIRROR

Founded as theNew York Mirrorin 1879, the trade paper of the theatrical profession added the wordDramaticin its official name in 1884, but was popularly known asThe Dramatic Mirror. Editor (and for a time, sole proprietor)Harrison Grey Fiskeled it to an impressive circulation by including gossipy pieces of interest to a general readership, even as he used it in the fight against theTheatrical Syndicate. Fiske ended his association with the journal in 1911 and its fortunes declined asVarietygained ascendancy, and in 1922, theDramatic Mirrorceased publication.
