FISKE, STEPHEN RYDER

(1840-1916)
Born in New Brunswick, New Jersey, and educated at Rutgers University, he practiced law, then served as a war correspondent. After working with theatre managers, includingAugustin Daly, he worked as a drama critic forThe Spirit of the Times(1879-1902). He was a founder of theNew York Dramatic Mirrorand of The Actors' Fund of America (AFA).
