JayS.Beck

is a Ph. D. candidate in the Department of Cinema and Comparative Literature at the University of Iowa. He is currently preparing a dissertation on the evolution of film sound practices entitled “Noise re(pro)duction: Film sound in the pre-Dolby era (1967–1979). ” His publications include articles foriris, Southern Review,Torre de Papel,and theJournal of Popular Film and Television.

TomDannenbaumgraduated from Brooklyn College’s film program. He has been a Kubrick devotee since the age of 12, when his father took him to seeBarry Lyndonin its initial release. He lives in New York City.

KentLambertgraduated from the University of Iowa in 1999 with a B. A. degree in media studies and film. After working for more than a year in the acquisitions department at a New York art house film distributor, he relocated to Chicago to focus on making experimental videos and pop music. His videos have appeared in such venues as the New York and Chicago Underground Film Festivals and the Lux Centre in London. He expects to release his first album of original music in 2002.

PaulB.Ramaekeris a graduate student at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, and is currently completing his dissertation on visual style in Hollywood films of the 1970s.

BillyBuddVermilliongraduated summa cum laude and with high distinction in the humanities from the University of Illinois in 1999. He earned his master’s degree from the University of Wisconsin in 2001, and he is currently pursuing a Ph. D. in that school’s communication arts program.
