CAJETAN, THOMAS

(1468–1534)
Italian scholastic philosopher and commentator on Aquinas . His workDe Nominum Analogia et de Conceptu Entis(trs. asThe Analogy of Names and the Concept of Being, 1953) is an extended discussion of the role of analogy in the theory of knowledge, and thence in theology. In this it anticipates more modern attempts to exploit metaphor for the same purpose.
