TOKUDA SHUSEI
(1871–1943)Tokuda Shusei was a naturalist writer from Kanazawa. He is noted for his novel Kabi (Mold, 1911) and was praised for his empathetic portrayal of women. Following the decline of naturalism, Tokuda shifted his focus to writing narratives in the I-Novel genre. Several of his novels, which sketch particularly fine portraits of life in everyday Japan, were turned into films.
