TODO SHIZUKO

(1949–)
Todo Shizuko is the pen name of Sapporoborn novelist Kumagai Masae. Todo graduated from Fuji Women’s Junior College and continues to live in Sapporo. She published her first poetry anthology, Suna no shokei (Longing of the Sand, 1968) at the age of 19, and is a Hokkaido Newspaper Literary Prize winner. After winning the Naoki Prize for Urete Yuku Natsu (The Ripening Summer, 1989), she became primarily a romance novelist, pioneering and popularizing the genre. She continues to publish romance novels today.
