TANIZAKI JUN’ICHIRO PRIZE

The Tanizaki Jun’ichiro Prize (Tanizaki Jun’ichiro sho) was established in 1965 to honor novelist Tanizaki Jun’ichiro. The prize, established by the Chuo Koron publishing house, is awarded annually to the author of that year’s most exemplary full-length fiction or drama and is one of the highest literary merits for a professional author. The winner receives a commemorative plaque and a cash prize of one million yen. Notable recipients include Endo Shusaku, Oe Kenzaburo, Oba Minako, and Murakami Haruki.
