KAWAKAMI BIZAN
(1869–1908)Kawakami Bizan, given name Akira, was a Meiji novelist who attended Tokyo Imperial University but dropped out and joined the Ken’yusha literary circle. Noted for his novels Shokikan (The Secretary, 1985–86) and Kan’on iwa (The Buddha Crag, 1906), Kawakami committed suicide in 1908.
