KARAKI JUNZO

(1904–1980)
Karaki Junzo was a literary critic and philosopher from Nagano Prefecture. After graduating from Tokyo University, he took teaching jobs in Nagano, Manchuria, and Hosei University. Renowned for his research on Mori Ogai, he received the Yomiuri Prize in 1955 for his essay “Chusei no bungaku” (Medieval Literature). After World War II, he helped edit the literary journal Tenbo (Outlook).
