ITO SEI PRIZE FOR LITERATURE

The Ito Sei Prize for Literature (Ito Sei bungaku sho) was established in 1990 by a group of residents in Ito’s hometown of Otaru City, Hokkaido, on the 20th anniversary of his death. The prize is awarded to outstanding works by established novelists and critics. The winner receives a bronze sculpture and a cash award of one million yen. Notable recipients include Oe Kenzaburo and Tsushima Yuko.
