AIDA MITSUO

(1924–1991)
Aida Mitsuo was a poet-calligrapher who published a number of works exploring the preciousness of life. A practicing Zen Buddhist, Aida published Ningen damono (Because I’m Human, 1984), Okagesan (Our Debt to Others, 1987), and Inochi ippai (Live a Full Life, 1991), each of which reveals his personal, open philosophy of life and his mastery of brush and ink calligraphy. Some of his poetry has been translated into English. He died of a brain hemorrhage.
