(NDR)
Political party. Known in Russian asNash DomRossiia, the NDR operated during the second half of the 1990s. The pro-Yeltsinparty was founded by then–Prime MinisterViktor Chernomyrdinas an economically liberal, centrist movement. In the mid-1990s, Our Home functioned as Russia’s “party of power,” enjoying support from the Kremlin,oligarchs, themedia, and major Russian corporations, includingLukoilandGazprom.The party platform focused on greater levels of personal freedom, expansion of private property, and better observance of the law. The NDR also supported lowermilitaryspending, increasedagriculturalsubsidies, anti-corruptioncampaigns, and pro-family legislation. In the 1995 election to theState Duma, the party won 10 percent of the vote, second only to theCommunist Party of the Russian Federation. Our Home—Russia played a central role in supporting Yeltsin’s reelection during the1996 presidential election. The party’s fortunes were closely tied to those of Chernomyrdin, and when he failed in his bid for a second term as prime minister, the NDR faltered accordingly. Yeltsin switched his support toUnityprior to the 1999 parliamentary elections, effectively banishing the NDR to the political wasteland.
