WAGHENAER, LUCAS JANSZ

(1533/1534–1606)
Cartographer. Waghenaer lived in the town of Enkhuizen on the coast of the Zuiderzee and specialized in making sea charts and guides for the many seamen in his town. He compiled the Spieghel der Zeevaerdt [published in Leiden, 1584–1585; translated into English as The Mariners’ Mirror, 1588]. His Thresoor der Zeevaert is a guide for seamen published first in 1592, with several ensuing corrected editions.
