RONTGEN, JULIUS

(1855–1932)
Member of a German-Dutch fam ily of composers. After 1877, he lived in Amsterdam, where he was active as a pianist and conductor. Rontgen composed many classical music works in the tradition of Felix Mendelssohn and Robert Schu mann, including 12 symphonies; concertos for piano, violin, and cello; and “Old Dutch Dances,” op. 46.
