HADEWIJCH

Flemish poet and mystic who influenced Jan van Ruusbroec. She is known only from her letters and poetry. Hadewijch probably lived in Brabant, was well educated, and might have been a beguine. Her strophic poems may be characterized as medieval chansons, and her visions as mystic revelations.
