ZUHAB, TREATY OF

The Treaty of Zuhab in 1639 between theOttomanandPersianEmpires formally established their border that had been unofficially marked after the Ottoman victory at theBattle of Chaldiranin 1514. The importance for the Kurds is that this border separated them between these two great Middle Eastern empires and in effect still largely exists today in the border betweenTurkeyandIran.
