MAKHMOUR CAMP

This camp was established near the city ofMosulin northernIraqin the early 1990s to house Kurds fleeing from violence in Turkey's southeast provinces. It is under the auspices of theUNHigh Commissioner forRefugees(UNHCR). However, Turkey has long claimed that the camp is being used by theKurdistan Workers Party(PKK) as a training, recruiting, and recreational center.
