KALHUR

The Kalhur Kurds were one of the largesttribesor tribal confederations in theKirmanshaharea ofIranand along theOttoman-Persianborder. In the 1830s the Kalhur were still largelyAhl-i Haqq, but by the early 1900s—when they played an important role — they had become at least outwardly Shia. The rapaciousDaud Khanwas the paramount leader of the Kalhur during the first decade of the 20th century. After his death his eldest surviving son and grandson competed for the leadership, and tribal fortunes declined.
