CUDI (JUDI), MOUNT

Pronounced as the English female name Judy, according to the Koran (Sura 11:44) this is the resting place of Noah's Ark. Contrast with the biblical statement (Genesis 8:4) that the ark came to rest "on the mountains of Ararat," which has come to be identified with Mt. Ararat to the north of Mt. Cudi and near theArmenianborder withTurkey.
Mt. Cudi is located nearCizrein southeastern Turkey near theSyrianandIraqiborders. Some argue that the wordCudiderives from a form of the termKurd. In the past, much heavy fighting occurred around Mt. Cudi between theKurdistan Workers Party(PKK) and the Turkish military.
