Menkes was a Britishfashion journalistwho was schooled as a fashion designer but became a fashion journalist for theInternational Herald Tribune. In 2002, she was blacklisted from attending all of French conglomerateMoët Hennessey Louis Vuitton(LVMH) designers' runway shows for writing an unfavorable review of theJohn Gallianoshow. Menkes had a reputation for writing scorching reviews and did not worry much about alienating her publisher's advertising clients.
