A computer technology company that provides product lifecycle management (PLM),computer-aided design(CAD), andcomputer-aided manufacturing(CAM) solutions to manufacturers andretailersin the sewn and flexible goods industries. In 1968, Joseph Gerber (American) invented the first automated cutting machine, which revolutionized the apparel industry worldwide. Between 1985 and 1987, he introduced the Gerber mover, a device that automatically moved pieces around the sewing floor and launched a more affordable multi-ply cutter. In 1988-1990, Gerber created the first PC-based marker system and Bill Clinton presented Joseph Gerber with the National Medal of Science and Technology for his introduction of the Silhouette pattern drafting table. From 1995 to 1997 Gerber introduced his GERBERsuite software package and, recognizing the shift in manufacturing potential, opened major operations in China and other developing countries. In 2004, Gerber received the Export Achievement Award from the U.S. Congress; the same year, Gerber launched GerberNet, a customer service Web portal. Additionally, Gerber Technology provides products for fashion retailers and manufacturers in other areas, including fashion lifecycle management (FLM), WebPDM, textile design, 3-D pattern visualization, and mass customization.
