ESCADA

This is a German sportswear company founded in 1976 by Wolfgang Ley, born in Germany (1937), and Margarethe Ley, born in Sweden (1933). The label took its name from a racehorse and the company expanded into the American market in 1982. Known for style, comfort, and superb workmanship, the company trademark is its attention to detail. Margarethe died in 1992 and Michael Stolzen-burg became the headdesigner. In 1990, aleatherline was added and then afragrancewas developed. In the mid-1990s, American designer Todd Oldham was hired as a creative partner. By the turn of the century, the company had expanded into successfulaccessories,childrenswear,sportswear, and eveningwear lines.
