Adepartment storefounded in 1872 by Lyman and Joseph Bloomingdale in New York City. By the 1970s, "Bloomies" was the place to shop if young, hip, and affluent (or the aspirations of affluence) were part of your makeup. By the turn of the century, it was a destination for those seeking the latest designerready-to-wearfashions, as well as more moderate variations.
