HELLENIZATION

HELLENIZATION: translation

The process of transformation under Greek influence by which Etruria has traditionally been seen to have been governed. This transformation has been traced in the urban form (especially in city layouts, as at Marzabotto), ceramics, religion, and particularly mythology. In fact, in many areas of Etruscan culture such as mythology (and its concentration on Ajax), selection of artistic motifs, modes of feasting (as opposed to the Greek symposium), and individualistic warfare show other modes of local recombination that suggest a process rather more than simply a response to Hellenic forces.
