Professor and core faculty member of the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology, Palo Alto, California. Tart is internationally known for his psychological work on the nature of consciousness—particularlyaltered states of consciousness—especially the volumeAltered States of Consciousness(1969), as well as his research in scientificparapsychology. He is one of the founders of the field of transpersonal psychology, and his bookTranspersonal Psychologies(1975) was instrumental in integrating the field into modern psychology. With his interests in the interface between scientific and spiritual communities, Tart edits the online journalTASTE, “dedicated to exploring the transcendent experiences of scientists.”
