LANDSMAAL

A written form of Norwegian created in the 19th century byIvar Aasen, Landsmaal (country language) is based on Norway s many different popular dialects and was offered as an alternative to the Danish-influenced Riksmaal (later known as bokmal, or book language). A simpler version of Landsmaal was created byAasmund Olafsson Vinje. The standard is now the less old-fashionednynorsk.
