Superborganistand influential teacher at the Munich Conservatory since 1859, he also completed 12massesfor various vocal combinations, mostly withorganaccompaniment, aStabat Mater, aRequiem, severalcantatas, and 20 organ sonatas. Although circulated mostly among Roman Catholic churches, Rheinberger’s sacred music is independent of theCecilianmovement’s influence.
